Epiroc's new charging solution receives prestigious Red Dot Award for industrial design excellence

July 8, 2026

Epiroc has been recognized with the internationally acclaimed Red Dot Award: Product Design 2026 for its Epiroc Charger. The recognition highlights the company's commitment to innovation, functionality, and user-centric design for underground mining and heavy-duty applications.

Representatives from Epiroc Electrification Solutions have attended the Red Dot Award ceremony to receive the distinction on behalf of the development team. (Ian Stothart, Lead Architect, Trent Sears, Global Product Manager – Electrical Infrastructure, Andrew Best, Mechanical Design Lead).

"This award is a testament to our ambition to combine cutting-edge technology with thoughtful design," said Trent Sears, Global Product Manager Electrical Infrastructure at Epiroc Electrification Solutions. "The Epiroc charging solution has been developed based on years of customer feedback, with a strong focus on safety, harsh environment resilience, optimizing operational flexibility and enabling charging of mixed fleets.”

The Red Dot Award is among the world's most respected design competitions, honoring products that demonstrate outstanding design quality and innovation. The jury evaluates submissions based on criteria including innovation, functionality, ergonomics, sustainability, and formal quality. The recognition underscores Epiroc's ability to deliver solutions where industrial performance and design excellence go hand in hand.

Recently launched, the Epiroc Charger represents a new generation of charging solutions designed specifically for the demanding conditions of underground mining and heavy-duty applications. Engineered with a rugged IP65-rated design, the solution withstands dust, humidity, and continuous heavy-duty use while delivering safe and reliable charging performance.

Designed with optimization of customer operations in mind, the charging solution supports OEM-agnostic charging and dynamic power sharing across up to eight charging posts from a single cabinet. Remote charge posts can be installed up to 300 meters from the central cabinet, enabling decentralized charging strategies that reduce tramming distances, minimize vehicle queues, and help keep equipment operating closer to active work areas. The charger's modular architecture and plug-and-play power electronics also simplify installation, configuration, and maintenance.

"This recognition reflects the dedication and collaboration of colleagues across engineering, product development, and design, as well as the close partnerships with customers that help shape our innovations," adds Sears. "We are proud to see our new charging solution recognized globally."

The award further strengthens Epiroc's position as a leading innovation partner for the mining and construction industries, delivering technologies that help customers succeed in the transition toward more sustainable operations.
