Careers

From open-pit mines to open opportunities

Martin Vaeßen grew up near the large lignite mines in western Germany, where the massive scale of the operations caught his attention from a young age. That early interest led him to study Mining Engineering and eventually take his first job at Epiroc in 2016. Over time, he discovered that what truly energized him wasn’t just the technical side of the industry—it was working in sales.

A new role with room to shape things

Today, Martin is based in the Netherlands and leads the Europe North West region within Epiroc’s new Customer Solution Center (CSC) for EMEA, part of the Attachments division. The CSC model, introduced in 2025, offers a new structure with space to influence strategy, build processes, and develop new ways of working across the region.

"Being part of the new CSC is genuinely exciting. I really believe we're taking the right approach to the market. Because it's a new setup in Epiroc, we only were launched in January 2025, so there is much room to shape things and make an impact. "

His professional path hasn't been entirely linear. After a few years at Epiroc, Martin left the company, and even the industry, when he relocated to the Netherlands. Eventually, though, he returned. Rejoining Epiroc in the Attachments division felt like a natural step, and for him, it was a return to something that felt familiar and meaningful.

Decisions, momentum, and lessons learned

One of the most important lessons Martin has picked up along the way didn’t come from a training session or formal meeting, but from a dealer: progress often depends on making a choice, even if it isn’t perfect. That mindset, taking action and adapting along the way, shapes how he works with his team and customers today.

Outside of work, life in the Netherlands suits him well. He used to see himself as more of a cat person, but after some encouragement from his girlfriend, they brought a dog into their lives, and it changed his mind completely.
