Automate and accelerate - Partnering to transform the Neves-Corvo mine
“36% of the total tonnage was mucked using automation last month”
The Boliden Somincor mine in Portugal is a true pioneer when it comes to underground automation. By using Epiroc’s Deep Automaton, operators can control multiple loaders from the surface control room – improving both productivity and safety at the mine.
But the success didn’t happen by chance. It was built on commitment from both parties, with dedicated automation roles at the mine and regular engagement sessions that kept progress moving forward.
“We work in areas where I never expected automation to be possible” says António Cruz, Mine Production Engineer - Automation at Boliden Somincor.
Taking automation to new levels – Collaboration and innovation at Newmont Cadia
When one of the panel caves in Australia’s largest gold mine couldn’t be mined safely, Newmont Cadia turned to Epiroc for an automation solution that could handle both loaders and auxiliary equipment – regardless of equipment manufacturer.
Today, the production level is fully orchestrated from the surface using Deep Automation, with 6 to 8 Scooptram ST18 loaders working simultaneously, hauling ore from draw points to the crusher. When needed, a rock breaker, water cannon, or inspection robot can be navigated inside the production area using teleremote - without interrupting the other machines.
