Meet the Presenters

Developing a Model for Production in Underground Mines with BEVs

Liam Plourde-Kelly, P.Eng, Reliability Engineer at Epiroc

 May 4, 2026 | 11:00 AM – 12:15 PM

As battery electric vehicles (BEVs) play a growing role in underground mining, traditional battery health checks like capacitance (Ah) testing can be time-consuming and impractical for real-time decisions. This session introduces a performance-based approach to monitoring battery degradation using machine data.

Join Liam Plourde-Kelly, P.Eng, Reliability Engineer at Epiroc, as he shares practical strategies for using Certiq telemetry data to assess battery performance. Drawing on field data from MT42 mine trucks, key indicators such as state of charge, regeneration, payload, and cycle distance are explored.

Learn how data-driven insights can identify performance trends, flag potential degradation, and support more efficient maintenance, helping extend battery life and optimize underground operations.

Powering the Future of Mining: Overcoming Safety and Infrastructure Barriers

May 6, 2026 | 2:00 PM – 2:25 PM

As battery electric vehicles (BEVs) transform underground mining by reducing ventilation demand, heat, and diesel emissions, their adoption introduces new challenges in power integration, charging logistics, and safety. This session explores practical approaches to supporting BEV implementation in underground environments.

Join Andre Barriault, Product and Application Specialist – Electrification at Epiroc, as he shares insights from real-world deployments. Drawing on field experience, this presentation examines battery safety, charging strategies, and grid readiness within constrained mining operations.

Learn how to develop effective charging plans, evaluate safety protocols, and build scalable electrical infrastructure, supporting safer, more efficient, and productive BEV-enabled mines.
