Collision avoidance system, pedestrian detected

Enhanced safety

Across all mining machinery and mobile equipment. The Titan Collision Avoidance System enhances safety by mitigating the risk of injuries and fatalities in mining operations, addressing collision risks involving vehicles, obstacles, and most importantly pedestrians.

OEM independent

Engineered with a highly adaptable framework, the Titan Collision Avoidance System (Levels 7, 8, and 9) seamlessly integrates with diverse OEMs using the ISO21815 standard to enhance safety across your mining fleet.

Suitable for all mining environments

The Titan CAS combines multiple fail-to-safe sensing technologies, tailored to excel in dynamic mining environments, providing effective safety measures underground, on the surface, and within plant facilities.

Titan CAS Solution

The Epiroc Titan Collision Avoidance system is capable of full level 7, 8 and 9 collision avoidance solution with EMESRT-PR-5A as a guideline. EMESRT Level 9 can be achieved without any change in the hardware requirement apart from a connection to the vehicle ISO21815 interface. This has the following advantages amongst others:

  • Simple conversion from EMESRT Level 7 to Level 9.
  • The solution is modular and with a highly flexible architecture with layers of fail-to-safe sensing technologies.
  • Our system supports multiple languages. Easily change display and audible alerts to a wide range of languages.
  • A uniform operating procedure simplifies various aspects such as training, maintenance, component availability, and supply.
  • It is possible to implement system evaluation and traffic management on-site without immediately enforcing level-9 intervention.

Furthermore, Titan CAS is the critical CxD component in the Collision Prevention System (CPS) solution as per the Minerals Council of South Africa’s definition and requirements.

The 4th generation of the Epiroc Titan CAS system has undergone significant improvements. These enhancements have been made to meet the changing requirements of the industry and to build upon the success of previous generations.

The Epiroc Collision Avoidance System is designed with the understanding that no single technology can provide a complete solution for sensing collision scenarios. The 4th generation Titan CAS system sets itself apart from competitors by combining low-frequency, time-of-flight, and sub-GHz RF for detecting vehicles and pedestrians in underground operations.

In addition to the standard underground implementation, the use of other technologies such as AI vision and GNSS allows the Titan CAS system to be applied to any operation. The system's modularity ensures that the technology implementation can be adapted over time as the needs on-site evolve.

Collision avoidance

Level 7:

Operator awareness: Alerts the operator. This is a warning or awareness system.

Level 8:

Advisory controls: Advises the operator. This is an advisory system.

Level 9:

Intervention controls: Takes control from the operator and automatically slows down and stops the vehicle.

Earth Moving Equipment Safety Round Table (EMESRT)

EMESRT plays a crucial role in improving safety standards in the mining industry by facilitating collaboration among stakeholders and driving initiatives to enhance vehicle interaction controls. As a facilitator, EMESRT brings together mining companies, OEMs, third-party PDS providers, and other stakeholders to develop industry-wide standards, protocols, and best practices for collision avoidance systems (CAS) and proximity detection systems (PDS).

Epiroc, as a CAS vendor, is involved in EMESRT's initiatives by actively participating in collaborative efforts to improve vehicle interaction controls. Epiroc contributes its expertise, technology, and insights to help develop and refine industry standards and protocols. This involvement ensures that Epiroc's CAS solutions align with industry requirements and standards set forth by EMESRT.

Additionally, Epiroc may also contribute to EMESRT's projects and initiatives by providing data, case studies, and practical insights from its own experience in implementing CAS solutions in mining operations. This collaboration allows Epiroc to stay at the forefront of industry developments, ensuring that its CAS solutions remain effective, efficient, and aligned with industry best practices.
